Maxine Adelaide Leaders
December 11, 1929 - January 13, 2021
Maxine Adelaide Knutson Tendler Leaders was born to Ariel and Clara Knutson on December 11, 1929, at Centerville, South Dakota, and passed away January 13, 2021, at the age of 91 years.
Maxine attended rural schools and graduated from Centerville High School in 1947. On June 14, 1953, she married Lloyd Tendler and lived in Beresford, South Dakota. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1964 with her daughter, Nancy.
She received her Bachelor’s degree from Sioux Falls College in 1965. She taught school in Turner and Lincoln counties, Brandon Elementary and at Axtell Park, Patrick Henry and Longfellow Schools retiring in 1992.
She married Lloyd Leaders on August 30, 1968.
Maxine loved to golf and was a member of Elmwood Thursday Morning Ladies League. She was active in Sioux Falls Area Retired Teachers and was a volunteer for Sanford Hospital and at her church. In her later years, she loved to play bingo and completed adult coloring books.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; daughter, Nancy (Mike) Gacke; stepchildren, Laura Kogel, Alan (Pam) and Jackie Thomas (Jeff); 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Buckstead, of Sioux Falls and 20 nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her parents; five brothers; three sisters; and two stepdaughters, Janice Oberlin and Diane (John) Lloyd, and Lloyd Tendler.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Monday, January 18, 2021, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls, with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends one-hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
