Debbra Sampica
July 2, 1958 - September 25, 2020

Debbra “Deb” Ann Sampica, 62, of Canton, South Dakota passed away on September 25, 2020, at University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota after a long battle with complications from heart surgery. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for future designation to the Great Plains Zoo. The family requests that all guests wear masks during the visitation and service.

Deb was born in Long Beach, California on July 2, 1958, to Wesley and Irma (Bordewick) Letcher. Deb grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating from O’Gorman High School in 1976. While she was still in high school in 1973, she met her future husband, Steve Sampica at the Elks Club. After several years, Steve asked Deb on their first date to an Aerosmith concert in Sioux City. In the Spring of 1979, Steve asked Deb what she thought about getting married. It must have been good thoughts as the two were married on September 1, 1979 at the St. Joseph Cathedral. They celebrated in true 70s style complete with blue tuxedos with an all-day party at KC Hall.

Steve and Deb added their daughter, Jennifer to their family in 1982 and their son, Benjamin in 1986. She enjoyed weekend camping trips with their Sioux Falls neighbors, many years of swimming in their backyard pool, and nights spent playing cards at Grandma Irma’s house. The family lived in Sioux Falls until 2003 when they moved to their dream acreage near Canton to raise alpacas. Throughout her life, Deb worked as a quality analyst in many positions at the following businesses: Sencore, Raven, Framer’s Art Gallery, and most recently at CCL. In her free time, Deb enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling with her family, and being a grandma to Sam. Deb’s favorite trips include family trips to Canyonlands National Park, Wyoming, Colorado, Walt Disney World, Washington D.C., Oregon, and San Diego. Her family will forever remember a special trip to Northern Minnesota in July 2020 before she was hospitalized. She will be missed by her many friends.

Deb is survived by her husband, Steve of Canton; daughter, Jen (Chris) Binkerd of Brandon, SD; grandson, Sam; son, Ben (Sarah) Sampica of Pierre, SD; siblings, Mike Letcher of Dolton, SD, Kathy (Ronald) Barnett of Sioux Falls, and Russ Letcher of Glendale, AZ; siblings-in-law, Mike Sampica, Kathy (Louie) Charpentier, Dave (Mary-Beth) Sampica all of Minneapolis, MN, and Mary-Kay (Jim) Broesder, of Marshall, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Irma.
