Richard Allen Mathison
June 17, 1959 - July 23, 2022
Services will be 2:00 PM, Friday August 18, 2023 at Miller Funeral Home 507 S. Main Avenue. Family will greet friends from 12:30 PM until service time. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery.
Richard was born to Lloyd and Bernetta Mathison on June 17, 1959 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up and attended school there. Richard spent the majority of his life living in the Sioux Falls area, as well as several years in Arlington and, most recently, in Watertown, South Dakota.
Richard was an avid fisherman as a young man and adult. He also loved pheasant hunting and being outdoors. He enjoyed visiting his sisters and their families when they were living in Oregon and California. Richard played baseball as a youth, and was a natural athlete. Family holidays, especially the grand holiday meals, were something he really enjoyed and always looked forward to spending time with his family.
Richard loved his son and grandsons dearly. Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Philip Mathison, Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Caelan, Ashton, Chance and Addison; his sisters, Cynthia (James) McFarland, Hartford, SD; Pamela Janssen, Crooks, SD; brother in-law Alvin Swenson, Cookeville, Tennessee; and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Bernetta Mathison; his dear sister Carmelita Swenson; special grandmother, Lena Junker; special aunt, Marion Junker; and special uncle, Arthur Junker.
