Delores Weisser
August 27, 1939 – January 13, 2023

Delores Weisser, age 83, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church (909 W. 33rd St.). Family will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Miller Funeral Home - Southside Chapel (7400 S Minnesota Ave.).

Dee was born on August 27, 1939 in Hudson, SD to Opal and Harold Heier right at the tail end of the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II. Dee was the oldest of three children and lived in Hudson her entire childhood, graduating from Hudson High School in 1957.

In the late 50’s she met Don Weisser at the Barrel Drive Inn in Sioux Falls before getting married on February 5, 1960. Dee lived in Sioux City, IA for a short time before living her 82 years in Hudson and Sioux Falls, SD. The couple had their first child, Jody, in July of 1960 and their son, Kevin, was born a year later. Their third child, Kyle, was born in 1970.

One of Dee’s strengths was her love and willingness to help others which showed in her choice of careers as a teacher's aide. Her first position was at South Sioux School helping mentally challenged children before her career at Terry Redlin which focused on helping children learn to speak English. Dee retired in 2000 and would often see her coworkers and students while out and about and loved catching up with them. Dee’s other love was her children and grandchildren. For many it was difficult to remember Dee before she had children and grandchildren as most of her stories and love were centered around them. Many phone calls and conversations would go something like, “Did you hear about Jacob’s new job”, “Did you see how cute Isaac was in the picture on Facebook”, or “Chloe was so beautiful in her Senior pictures”.

Dee will be greatly missed by her husband Don, her sons, Kevin (Becky) Weisser, and Kyle (Lisa) Weisser both of Sioux Falls; her grandchildren, Lindsay (Jose) Rodak of Santa Clara, CA, Nick Rodak of Rancho Mirage, CA, Joshua, Jacob, and Christina Weisser, Chloe, Cade, Claire Weisser, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and her great-grandchildren Elizabeth Weisser of Brandon, SD, and Isaac and Revi Martinez of Santa Clara, CA. Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Opal and Harold Heier; her daughter Jody; her sister, Rosella; her brother, Harold; and her grandson, Joey.
