Suzanne "Sue" M. Beaumont Roelofsen
June 30, 1953 – May 7, 2023

Suzanne “Sue” M. Beaumont Roelofsen, 68 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation with her family present will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD.

Suzanne “Sue” M. Beaumont Roelofsen was born June 30, 1953, in Hettinger, ND to William and Maxine (Stenberg) Beaumont. The middle of five children, Sue grew up and received her education in Hettinger, graduating in 1971 where she played flute and piccolo in the band. Following high school Sue attended St. John’s McNamara School of Nursing, Rapid City, SD and met Paul Licht.

On June 2, 1973, Sue and Paul were married in Hettinger, ND. They lived in Sioux City, Waterloo and Sergeant Bluff, IA. Together they raised three children: Jennifer (Jason) James, Sioux City; Dan (Stephanie) Licht, Lakeville, MN; and Becky (Dan) Frederiksen, Sioux Falls. Sue was active in her kids’ activities, her community, and church where she taught Sunday school and Confirmation classes. Sue’s favorite job was being a mom.

Sue achieved her dream of becoming a registered nurse in 1998 when she graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College, Sioux City, IA.

Sue’s nursing career began as an LPN at Matney’s Colonial Manor. After becoming an RN, Sue worked at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City and later at Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls. She earned her critical care credentials and served as a travelling nurse in Wisconsin and North Carolina. The majority of her career was working in oncology, retiring in 2018 from the Prairie Center at Avera McKennan, Sioux Falls. For Sue there was no greater honor or mission as important as caring for her patients, especially cancer patients whose joy and tears were never entirely separated. Sue combined skilled medical training with a special human connection for empathy and understanding.

Sue met the love of her life Todd Roelofsen, and they were married July 6, 2019, at Falls Park. Sue and “My Todd” as she lovingly referred to him, enjoyed traveling, boating at their lake home at Okoboji, IA; and being with family and friends.

Sue was gracious, warm and welcoming. She was beautiful, inside and out. She would be excited at the chance to host or attend a party or social get-together where she would engage with others and make them feel uniquely special. However, she also had a tough time ending the good times and usually protested if you were ready to leave! She never liked saying good-bye. That was so perfectly Sue. One last poignant celebration was on April 30, 2022, when Sue and Todd hosted the wedding of her daughter at their home. All her children and grandchildren were together.

Sue loved her family, especially her nine grandchildren, who called her Bama Sue: Cale Dobson, Chicago, IL; Jameson Cosgrove, Corvallis, OR; Emma Cosgrove, Creighton Cosgrove and Kellen Cosgrove, all of Sibley, IA; Dylan Licht and Blake Licht, Lakeville, MN; and Eva Frederiksen and Graham Frederiksen, both of Sioux Falls, SD; Brandon Morton and Oliver Biggs both Lawrence, KS.

In September, 2019, Sue was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She battled valiantly with the love and support of her husband, family and friends. She was grateful for the care of her physician, Dr. Luis Rojas and her former coworkers. Dr. Rojas told Sue she was family and an integral part of the Avera Cancer Institute. Even though she lived a full and hopeful life, dying was never on Sue’s schedule. In typical fashion she tenaciously said, “I don’t want my party to end.” The family would like to thank Heather Johnson for the loving care she gave Sue while she was in home hospice.

Sue is survived by her husband, Todd; her children; grandchildren and three siblings, Mark (Debbie) Beaumont, Rapid City, SD; Michelle “Mimi” (Paul) Griffith, Sioux Falls; and Dale (Nancy) Beaumont, Sioux Falls. She is also survived by Todd’s family including his mother, Marjorie Roelofsen, Spirit Lake, IA; and his daughter Brooke Roelofsen, Lawrence, KS, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald “Ron” Beaumont.
