Deloris Nothdurft
October 24, 1926 - March 11, 2022

Deloris Fern Nothdurft lost her battle to cancer on March 11, 2022 surrounded by her children. Deloris was born on October 24, 1926, to Reiner and Vernace Poppenga. She grew up on a farm near Lennox, SD. She married Fred Nothdurft on May 10, 1945, and they moved to a farm near Larchwood, IA. In 1963, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and she worked at various businesses, finishing her employment at the VA Medical Center.

Deloris was strong, hardworking, and independent with many interests, including dancing, bowling, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, watching sports, going to auctions, and coin collecting. She enjoyed summers working in her garden, growing an abundance of flowers. The trunk of her car transported many flowers that she simply couldn’t resist purchasing.

She is survived by her daughters Virginia (Ken) Coffee, Judy (Dean) Nelson, her son Dennis (Jacki) Nothdurft all from Sioux Falls, SD, and her grandchildren: Tosha (Brent) Mansheim Lincoln, NE; Cathy Krueger Sioux Falls; Sara (Tim) Potter Sioux Falls; Amy (Deric) Shires Glendora, CA; Tenley (Jared) Krueger Spritzer Missouri City, TX; and James (Christie) Nothdurft Sioux Falls, SD.

Deloris was affectionately called “Great” by her great-grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren include: Morgan & Boston Mansheim (Lincoln, NE); Pruitt, Carson, and Barrett Spritzer (Missouri City, TX); Hadley Krueger (Sioux Falls); Jackson Potter (Sioux Falls); Lilly, Isaac and Caleb Shires (Glendora, CA); and Zaiden Nothdurft (Sioux Falls).

Her surviving siblings are sisters Fran (Ed) Postma and Valoy Poppenga both from Sioux Falls, SD and her brother Bill (Carol) Poppenga from Lennox, SD.

She is also survived by her special friends Mick Bruggeman (Larchwood, IA) and Bev Sievers (Sioux Falls) and numerous members of the extended Poppenga and Nothdurft families.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Fred on August 18, 1979, daughter and son-in-law Jane and Tom Krueger, and grandsons Greggory Nothdurft and Christopher Krueger. Brothers Ben, Jerry, and infant LeRoy Poppenga plus sisters Mildred Birk, Phyllis Goeman, and Berdell Bak also predeceased her.

Special thanks to the Sanford Hospice nurses, Brook and Catherine, who skillfully helped us with her care. Also, thank you to Jan from Visiting Angels who bonded with our mom in the short time of your service. We so appreciate all of your assistance so our mom could stay in her home during her final days.

Deloris reached a wonderful age and was genuinely interested in others and the world around her, always looking forward to the future. Her motto was “If you rest you rust” and she lived that motto to the fullest.

Honoring her wishes, there will be no services.
