Dean was born on January 15, 1928, to George and Goldie Everetts. A lifelong resident of Sioux Falls, he graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army until 1947. Upon discharge, he returned to Sioux Falls and worked at Young and Richards Flower Shop, becoming a master florist.

His true love was his high school sweetheart, Janet, who he married on January 21, 1949. With his high school classmate Kenny Williams, at his side, Dean and Janet exchanged vows with a marriage that lasted over 72 years.

In 1957, Dean changed occupations and graduated from Barber College in Sioux City, IA. From there he worked with his dad at Grange Ave. Barbershop until 1972, when he became the owner/operator, retiring in1992. He kept his skills honed by keeping his backyard and flowers well groomed.

Dean’s love for aircraft modeling began at an early age and continued for over 80 years. He was the co-founder of the Sioux Falls Gas Model Club, was an active member of the Pylon Pirates, often putting on aerial shows at the Lyons Fairgrounds. He was also the co-founder of the Sodbuster Model Club, which is still active today.

Dean loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting or fishing with his dad and sons or playing with almost any dog that would come along. He loved his cats and all the visits by his grand dogs.

During Dean’s retirement, he and Janet took many trips to Hawaii and also traveled to Germany in 1986.

He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, attending Bible Study and was on the “dishwashing crew”, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Dean was also known for his great joke and storytelling, in addition to always having chocolates to hand out to friends.
