Guyver Somsawat, age 35 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Hillcrest Church in Sioux Falls, SD. A Visitation with family present to greet relatives and friends will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Victor Somsawat was born on February 25, 1986, in Fresno, CA. As a child, family members gave him the nickname Guyver. His nickname came from the TV show MacGyver, a show about a man with infinite resourcefulness.

He spent his early childhood in Fresno, CA, and moved to San Diego, CA just in time to start kindergarten. He lived in Garland, TX for a few years as an adolescent. In the summer of 1999, his family moved to Sioux Falls, SD and planted their roots here.

He grew up in a large family with five siblings. He loved spending his time as a child trying to spend all day at the pool; finding leftover change to purchase his favorite snacks, hot cheetos and popcorn with Cholula sauce; watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers; and playing with his siblings, cousins and friends.

He worked a variety of jobs until he found a career at Raven Industries and has worked there for the last nine years.

Guyver met Amber in the summer of 2007 and they married on June 8, 2011. Their marriage took place at the Japanese Gardens. That week it rained everyday, before and after their wedding day, but it was a beautiful sunny day on their wedding day.

Guyver and Amber built a life together with their four daughters, Tiana, Bianca, Ciara, and Lexi. They welcomed a new addition to their family in 2017, their playful pitbull, Luna.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, you could usually find him at the BBQ grill during cookouts at their house. After everyone was fed and cared for, he enjoyed relaxing in a lawn chair and smoking a cigar with the guys.

His life centered around the love he had for his wife and daughters. He worked long hours to provide for his family and ensure they were well loved and cared for. He was known by many as a loving, kind, and generous person.

God called him home on November 6, 2021. His wife Amber and their girls love him more than ever and are deeply saddened over this loss. He will be forever in their hearts and missed every day.

Grateful for sharing his life is his wife, Amber Somsawat of Sioux Falls, SD; children, Tiana Meeks, Bianca Meeks, Ciara Somsawat, and Alexis Somsawat, all of Sioux Falls, SD; his mother, Ouan Soukkeo of Sioux Falls, SD; his sisters, Sythong (Subash) Seshadri of Woodbury, MN, Lana (Jeremy) Krahn of Sioux Falls, SD, Vanna “Joy” Somsawat of Brooklyn Park, MN; brothers, Vincent (Xiong) Somsawat, and Virgil “Boun” Somsawat of Sioux Falls, SD; his father-in-law, Ha Tran; mother-in-law, Twila (Bruce) Kruger; sisters-in-law, Ashley (Gunner) Ford, Tiffany Tran; brother-in-law, Oceane Tran, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

Guyver was preceded in death by his nephew, Berend Jeremy Krahn; and grandmother, Sing Soukkeo.
