September 13, 1927 - February 24, 2022
Sioux Falls, SD ~ Cynthia Mae Person, age 94, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Ava’s House by Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD. Her family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Monday at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Ava’s House.
Cynthia Mae Oaks was born on September 13, 1927, in Hartford, SD to Clifford Whitney and Grace Anastasia (Martin) Oaks. She was raised and received her education in Hartford.
Cynthia was united in marriage with Donald Eklund Person on November 5, 1946, in Sioux Falls, SD. Cynthia and Donald were blessed with five children, while Cynthia worked from home and taught piano and organ lessons. Donald passed away on October 30, 1991.
Cynthia was an active parishioner of St. Lambert Catholic Church in Sioux Falls where she played the organ for many years and was a member of Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of D.A.R. and volunteered at Avera McKennan Hospital for over 20-years.
Cynthia was a gifted musician and loved playing the piano. She enjoyed golfing, playing scrabble, working on crosswords, playing Bridge and wintering in Arizona with her sister/best friend, Mary Lou. Above all, Cynthia loved spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, Kenneth Person and his wife, Cathy of Mountain Green, UT, Susan Nelson of Leesport, PA, Elna Leonard and her husband, Thomas of Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy Person of Sioux Falls, SD and Karl Person and his wife, Kathleen of Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; Monica (Ryan) Eames, Scott (Jaime) Nelson, Sean (fiancé, Teresa Haider) Leonard, Jenny (Brian) Christensen, Shannon (Andrew) Karetas, Patrick Leonard, Heather (Jason) Deitz, Liz (Jeremy) Hill, Andrew Davidson, Olivia Person, Natalie Person, Noah Person and Matt Hanney; 16 great grandchildren; Shauni, Nikki, Ellie, Conner, Adley, Libby, Kaeleigh, Aidan, Jake, Drew, Asher, Gracie, Norah, Clara, Ava and Andrew; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Cynthia is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Clifford and Grace Oaks; sisters WyVonne Connolly, Juanita Oaks, Ida Jane Oaks and Mary Lou Kanalos.
