The funeral Mass will be lived streamed here at 10:30 AM Friday August 20, 2021

Sheila Rae Healy, age 71, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Sheila was diagnosed in February of 2019 with anaplastic astrocytoma, a rare form of brain cancer. She met her diagnosis with the same grace that she brought to every aspect of her life. It may have taken her life, but it didn’t defeat her.

Sheila was born to Duane and Marjorie Peterson in Yankton, SD on January 8, 1950. She grew up in Irene, SD where she met the love of her life – John Healy. They married on May 30, 1969 and had two sons, Scott and Sean.

Sheila was quick to smile and quick to give out a compliment. We have heard Sheila referred to as the “peacemaker” and the “glue” that held people together. She always put the needs of others before her own, a genuine sweetheart. Over the years, she was a lector and eucharistic minister at her church and served as a eucharistic minister for hospitalized patients. Sheila was always reaching out to those in need.

Sheila was also known for her sense of style. That fabulous style ran from her fashion to decorating her home and creating an amazing flower garden. Her beautiful garden was featured in the Sioux Falls Parade of Gardens as well as in the Argus Leader. That sense of style also made Sheila a great fit for several professional endeavors, including her work at Mahlanders and Consignor’s Design. Her knack for interior design and staging rooms made Sheila a great realtor, where she was RASE Rookie Realtor of the year.

Sheila adored her many family and friends. John, her constant companion for over 52 years, was her partner in many travel adventures, and of course in being wonderful parents and grandparents. Sheila poured endless amounts of love into her sons, and then continued to pour that love into her three granddaughters. Her siblings have remained incredibly close over the years and have been each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Sheila’s many friends could count on her for shopping adventures, a game of mahjong, and countless cups of coffee and chatting. Sheila also never met a bargain or garage sale she could resist.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband John of Sioux Falls: son Scott (Monica) Healy and granddaughters Sarah, Anna and Ellie of Maple Grove, MN; son Sean (Martha) Healy of Golden Valley, MN; siblings Cynthia Hines and Bruce (Janiece) Peterson of Sioux Falls, Janelle (John) Brockmueller of Irene, SD, Michelle (Charlie) Gholl of Minneapolis, Kim (Tracy) Thie of Excelsior, MN, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM with a scripture service at 6:00 PM Thursday August 19, 2021 at Miller Southside Funeral Chapel 7400 S. Minnesota Ave. A public funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 AM Friday August 20, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with a private family committal to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Avera In-Home Hospice, Dougherty Hospice House or the St. Francis House. Masks are encouraged at both services.
