Margaret Mesmer
March 14, 1928 - December 17, 2017
Margaret Evonne Johnson Mesmer, born March 14, 1928, in Sioux City, IA, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 in Sioux Falls, SD. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at the Miller Funeral Home downtown location from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM following the visitation.
Margaret graduated from Morningside College and taught Kindergarten and 1st grade at Bryant in Sioux City and worked as a Social Worker for the Department of Human Services at Cherokee Mental Health Institute. Prior to her retirement she worked at a Sioux Falls law firm for 20 years.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Pilot Rock Chapter in Cherokee, IA and Mary Chilton Chapter in Sioux Falls, SD. Margaret was president of the Iowa Lutherans for Life, member of the National Board of Lutherans for Life; and a founding member of Mainstreet Living, a pro-life broadcast.
Margaret is survived by her children, Jann Fowler, Jill Mesmer, Jon (Patti) Mesmer, Jeff (Cindy) Mesmer and Julie (Mike) Samp; grandchildren, Jason and Ben Fowler, Sara Henke, Luke (Brittany) Mesmer, Jennifer and Sam Mesmer, Alexis Mesmer, Jake, Maggie and Peter Samp; great-grandchild, McKenna Fowler. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Alta Johnson; brother, Stan (Ann) Johnson; and sister, Bev (Jack) Donelson.
