Ronald “Ron” James Hargan, age 81, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior in heaven on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Ava’s House by Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD.

Private funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020 at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD at 1:00 PM. Followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD . Ronald’s funeral service will be live streamed on Friday at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bethel wishes to accommodate those who want to attend Ron Hargan's funeral, while at the same time maintaining appropriate physical distancing. In order to accomplish this, there will be limited seating. For this reason Bethel asks people who plan to attend to RSVP

Ron was born on March 13th, 1939 at home in Alexandria, SD to Kenneth and Lena (Mammen) Hargan. Ronald lived in Bridgewater, SD for a short time, then in 1944 moved to a farm SE of Bridgewater. For Ron’s elementary training, grades 1-5 were at a country school, ½ a mile from the farm. Grades 6-12 were in Spencer, SD. Ronald graduated from Spencer high school in 1957. He then attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls for two years. Following his education Ron went to work at Campbell Supply Company in 1959. Ron then enlisted in the SD Army National Guard in Salem, SD on January 1, 1957. In February of 1962 he received a medical discharge. He then returned to Sioux Falls and his job at Campbell’s where he worked as comptroller until his retirement in September of 2002.

Ron was united in marriage on April 18, 1964 with Arleen Bartsch, daughter of Werner and Gertrude (Rutz) Bartsch at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN. Ronald and Arleen made their home in Sioux Falls and were blessed with two children, Scott and Sandra.

Ron was baptized on Oct. 1, 1939 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Emery, SD. He took adult instruction and became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, on March 29, 1964. In 1994 Ron and Arleen became members of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, where he was active as an usher, Boy Pioneer Leader and served on the church council.
Ron enjoyed camping, traveling, wintering in the south, working in his vegetable garden and above all spending time with family; especially his grandchildren. Ron was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of over 56-years, Arleen Hargan of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Scott Hargan and his wife, Cindy of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Sandra Prout and her husband, Rich of Peoria, AZ; granddaughter, Kendra Hargan of Mountain Home, ID; grandson, Roman Boyum of Fairbanks, AK; two sisters, Jeannette (Walter) Goossen of Marion, SD and Julie Hargan of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Bonne Hargan of Ellis, SD; and brother-in-law, Orlin Bartsch of Eugene, OR; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harlan Hargan.
