Heiko "Ike" Bakker was born March 21, 1856 in Germany, and died 1934 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Co., South Dakota. He was the son of Geert and Aka DeFriese Bakker. He was brought to America with his parents and sister in 1865 by his brother Hendrick (Henry) Bakker (he had immigrated a few years earlier). They settled in the area of Freeport, Stevenson Co., Illinois and farmed for several years. In 1881, he left Illinois and moved to the Dakota Territory to homestead. He settled in the area that is now Lincoln County, South Dakota. He married Annie Witte December 12, 1897 in Lennox, Lincoln Co., South Dakota. She was born October 07, 1878 in Leaf River, Ogle Co., Illinois, and died January 18, 1954 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Co., South Dakota.
