Gordon Kyllo, 78, of Tea, SD died on May 7, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Gordon Benjamin Kyllo was born October 22, 1926 in Hunter, ND. He was the first of 5 children born to Bennie and Ruth Kyllo. He grew up in Hunter where he received his education. While in school, he was also a star basketball player. He entered military service and received an honorable discharge 2 years later. He spent the next 3 years as a versatile farmer and student, helping his dad on the farm and commuting back and forth to vocational college in Mayville, ND. He attended one year of college at NDSU in Fargo. In December of 1950, he reenlisted in the service and served a second tour during the Korean conflict. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. Following his discharge from the military in 1953, Gordy moved to Fargo, ND where he began his career with Red Owl stores for 27 years, serving in numerous capacities. On February 11, 1956, he was united in marriage with Phyllis M. Ross in Moorhead, MN. In 1980, Gordy and Phyllis moved to Pierre, SD, and two years later, he began working for Terrace Park. The couple lived in Pierre for 20 years and moved to Tea, SD 2½ years ago. He worked in the main office for Lakeside Dairy for a total of 14 years. Gordon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea, the VFW, and the Moose Lodge. Gordy was a sports fanatic. He spent several years as a referee for high school basketball, and was an avid bowler. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes. When it came to sports, he enjoyed basketball, baseball and football. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Phyllis, of Tea, SD; two daughters, Jody Kyllo of Tea, SD and Carol Seela and her husband Douglas, of Dayton, IA; a step-son, Frank Whitecalf and his wife, Julie, of Garrison, ND; and 6 grandchildren, Trevor, Garrett, Tyler, Jessica, Jacki and Justin.
