Harley Oliver Furrey, son of Frank and Angeline (LaRue) Furrey, was born March 18, 1921 in Wood Lake, NE. He lived in North Central Nebraska where he went to school and worked as a farm hand and other farm jobs before entering into the United States Army on August 28, 1942. After receiving his training, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne paratroopers and served in Normandy, Belgium and the Netherlands. After being discharged from Ft. Leavenworth KS. In January 1946, he went to work for L.E. Meyers & Company, where he received his apprenticeship as an electrician. Harley was united in marriage with Hilda Hagemeyer on July 9, 1955 at Luverne MN. In 1956, as a journeyman lineman, he began working for Iowa Electric Light & Power Company. He worked and lived in Perry, Adair and Boone, IA until his retirement in 1984. He then relocated to Tea, South Dakota where he resided until his death. Harley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Otley Lodge #299 A.F.&A.M. in Perry, IA, the American Legion in Tea, SD and the John M. Bliss VFW Post #628. Harley loved his family dearly and held a very strong family connection. He really enjoyed children and listening to his son, Harry, sing and play his guitar. Harley liked fishing, hunting, and bowling. He is survived by Hilda M.Furrey (His wife of 50 Years), three children, Harry L. Furrey and his wife, Theresa, Cheyenne, WY, Mary Ann Coleman and her husband, Dennis, Boone, IA, and Sharon Meyers of Kearney NE; six grand children; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Martin Furrey, Bayard, NE and Floyd Furrey of California. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruby Furrey; his parents; his brothers and sisters Earl Shawn Furrey, Theresa Dow, Anna Talmage, Charles Furrey and Harry Furrey.
