Herbert G. Stangeland was born Sept. 18, 1893 in Dell Rapids, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Stangeland. He grew up and attended school in Dell Rapids.

He served his country in France during WWI where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received. He married Olga Larson in 1934. He farmed near Dell Rapids and also worked in the trucking business. He wife died in 1954. In 1968 he moved to the State Veterans Home in Hot Springs where he lived until the time of his death. He was Post Commander of the George A. Fitzgerald Post No. 65 in Dell Rapids.

He is survived by one son, Richard of San Antonio, Tex., and one sister, Mrs. Ruby Ledyard of Dan Bernardino, Calif.

He died Dec. 15 at Hot Springs. Funeral services were held Thurs., Dec. 20 at 11 p.m. at the Dell Rapids Lutheran Church with Revs. Martin L. Haase and John Watne officiating. The organist was Mrs. John Muller and soloist was Ron Peterson.

Casketbearers were members of the George. A. R. Fitzgerald Post No. 65 and burial was at the Dell Rapids Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were by the Hermanson – Kahler Funeral Home.
