(July 27, 1926 - February 28, 2010)

James "Jim" Moe, 83, of Sioux Falls formerly of Crooks died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 4, 2010 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery, with Military Rites. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8:00 PM Wednesday at Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

James was born July 27, 1926 on a farm near Renner to Ben and Emma (Brende) Moe. He attended elementary school at Thompson School District #3, one mile from his home. He graduated from Baltic High School in 1944. He enlisted in the US Army in 1946 and was part of the Occupation Army in the Philipines, Okinawa and Japan and was discharge in 1948. He then enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950. Throughout his military career he was stationed in the Far East, Canada and many northern states of the United States. He was a Radar Operations Supervisor in Air Defense and was discharged as a MSGT in September 1969.

He married Lois Jean Arneson January 13, 1951 in Biloxi, Mississippi. They were blessed with two sons, Larry L. Moe and James A. Moe.

After his separation from the Air Force he purchased a small farm near his birthplace and attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls and became an Executive Accountant.

Jim was a lifetime member of West Nidaros Lutheran Church, the Sioux Falls DAV and VFW, Baltic American Legion, Sons of Norway and several retired military organizations.

He loved music, sports and really enjoyed teaching the Norwegian language, which he taught for twelve years at the Sons of Norway Lodge #138 in Great Falls, Montana. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lois, Sioux Falls; two sons, Larry Moe, Sioux Falls; Jimmy Moe and his wife Janice, Great Falls, MT; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Bennie "Bud" Moe, Custer; four sisters, Ella Aasen, Dell Rapids; Eunice Thompson, Vancouver, WA; Florence Selland and Doris Ernst, both of Sioux Falls; a sister in law, Hazel Moe, Sioux Falls and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Art Moe and Dennis Moe and a sister, Sena Oaks.
