D.H. Richardson Dies Tuesday Afternoon
Had Been a Resident Here More Than 80 Years; Funeral Saturday Afternoon
D.H. Richardson, one of Dell Rapids oldest citizens, passed away Tuesday afternoon about 4:30 from the effects of a heart attack, due no doubt in a way to the excessive heat. He had been in usual health (although gradually failing for the past years) up until the time of his passing. He had made his trip up town during the afternoon and enjoyed coffee and conversation with his associates as usual. During the afternoon his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Cal Cran of Clear Lake Came, and Mr. Richardson suggested they drive up town. As they pulled up to a stop sign on Fourth Street Mr. Richardson slumped in the seat and Mr. Cran rushed him to the hospital less than a block away, but evidently death was almost instant as all efforts to revive him failed.
Mr. Richardson came to Dell Rapids at the age of 4 ½ years, and had lived here continually since that time. He was 85 years old on July 5 of this year. He had been active in all civic affairs – served on the city council for many years, was deputy sheriff of Minnehaha County at one time and held various other local offices. A more complete obituary will be published next week.
He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. A.L. Burnet (Faye) Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Cal Cran (Frances) Clear Lake, S.D.; Mrs. Sam LeBrun (Fern) Dell Rapids, and one son, Lloyd C. Richardson, Aberdeen; three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, 1:30 at the home, 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church, Rev. R.O. Moberly officiating.
