Raymond N. Jorgenson, former City Engineer of Sioux Falls, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2006. Ray was born on February 23, 1917 in Dell Rapids, SD to Nellie (Norgaard) and Conrad Jorgenson. After graduating from high school, he attended business college before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served in the South Pacific during WWII as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers.

He married Glenda Bartholow in November, 1942. Upon his discharge from the Army in 1945, he attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began working for the City of Sioux Falls in 1952 as Assistant City Engineer. He was later appointed City Engineer, a post he held until his retirement in 1985.

Ray was an active member of First Baptist Church, Sioux Falls. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Elks Club, and Sioux Empire Federal Credit Union, and was appointed to the board. He had also been a member of the Legion Chorus and Lions Club.

Ray was a gentle, kind and loving man who loved people and whose life exemplified his Christian beliefs. He will be greatly missed by those left to cherish his memory. Among the survivors are his wife of 63 years, Glenda; daughters Judy (Jay) Lingo, of Minnetonka, MN, and Linda Johnson, of Ogden, UT; son-in-law, Al Parliament, of Sioux Falls; 6 grandchildren, Allegra and Marissa Lingo, Jordan and Taylor Johnson, and Lance and Lauren Parliament; sister, Shirley Osterday, of Rapid City; sister-in-law, Mildred Jorgenson, of Dell Rapids; brother-in-law, Harvey Christiansen, of Rapid City; sister-in-law, Thelma Ullom, of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law, Norm Bartholow, of Chandler, AZ; brother and sister-in-law, John and Dar Abbott, of San Antonio, TX; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Janine Parliament; sister, Viola Christiansen; brothers, Norman and Raymond; and his parents.

Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 6 at Dell Rapids Cemetery in Dell Rapids.
