MOODY PIONEER PASSES AWAY AT HOME IN EGAN

Charles J. Buck, a pioneer resident of Moody county since 1878, passed away at his home in Egan April 7, 1930. During his long residence in this community, Mr. Buck earned the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He was good citizen in all the implications of that name and his passing is a loss to the county.

The funeral was held Wednesday from the home by Rev. Arms at 1:30 and with services at the Egan Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The following were pallbearers; Robert Manson, Charles Manson, Arthur Hutton, Guy Hutton, Bert Relf and Harry Relf.

Charles J. Buck was born in White Pigeon, Michigan, March 12, 1855. While yet a small child is parents moved with him to Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Anna E. Altland in 1877. In 1878 they moved to Moody county, South Dakota and homesteaded on a farm about two miles north of the site now known as Egan. Later on they moved to a farm in the north part of the town of Egan. In 1916 he moved to the home in town where he has since lived until death called him April 7, 1930, at 12:30 p.m.

To this union were born eight children, Pearl of Aberdeen, Lou, of Egan, Lee of Flandreau, and Leslie of Pipestone, Minn., two girls and two boys having preceded him in death.

He became a member of the Methodist church of Egan, January 28, 1912. He leave to mourn his departure, besides his wife and four children, one sister, Mrs. Jay Manson of Trent, S. Dak and eight grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Buck was very fond of children; he was a good husband and a kind father. At the time of his death he was 75 years and 26 days of age. Early in the winter it was noticeable that his health was failing, but such was not to be for on Monday at noon his spirit quietly slipped away.
