Katrina was born and raised in Huron, S.D. She was the youngest of two children and the only daughter of Mark Moilan and Chris Hanten. She had a brother, Michael who was three years older than her. She adored her brother and really liked to get him into trouble, always the instigator in their childhood squabbles. She attended St. Martins Catholic School throughout her grade school years. Every morning Monday through Friday she and her brother would attend mass before school started as her parents had to be at work prior to school starting. They would attend with their Grandma Veronica Kalahar. She loved to read and this continued into her adult life. Her parents tried to get her interested in sporting activities and she hated it. Soccer and T-ball did not go well, so then she tried Tap and Ballet classes for several years but she was so shy about preforming in front of an audience that she no longer wanted to attend.
Katrina had many friends in school as she was a true friend and cared about others’ feelings. She was very sympathetic and compassionate towards the feelings of everyone she met. She became a Girl Scout and helped her mom as a troop leader. A tree was planted in the park across from the St. Martins Catholic Church in remembrance of the group’s fundraising efforts. Katrina went on to attend Huron Middle School and High School, she did very well in her academics and studies, of course, her favorite was reading, and could often be found at the library. She took piano lessons for several years and enjoyed playing the percussion/drums during her high school years. She graduated earlier than most of her classmates but was able to walk across the stage for her diploma with them. Katrina lived with her grandparents, Mike and Judy Kalahar her senior year of high school. They became very close and considered her a daughter rather than a granddaughter. They enjoyed the activity of all her friends who came and visited.

She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., and chose to get a teaching degree. While all her friends were still back in Huron, she really missed them and struggled with the separation.

Katrina eventually ended up transferring her credits to Colorado Tech University in Sioux Falls, S.D. in order to pursue a degree in criminal justice. She lived with her mom Chris and her fiancé Terry Hanten. She attended college while working as a guard for the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

She met her first husband and moved to Hot Springs, S.D. They attended many of his family's gatherings and celebration of their Lakota Heritage. She lived the nomad's life while moving around the upper mid-west cities of Duluth and Bemidji, eventually coming back home to Huron, S.D. That marriage did not last long and she eventually moved back to Sioux Falls, S.D.

She worked at Casey’s as a cashier on Cliff Ave. and that is where she met her second husband Brad White. He said he was on lunch break; walked into the store and said I’m going to marry that girl. They were married July, 2009 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

On February 9. 2010 they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Veronika Helen White. Her birth was a great joy and consumed Katrina’s world.

Katrina started working at Sanford Health in 2010 in the Admissions Office registering patients, Secretary for the Fertility & Reproductive Medicine, and then on to the Corporation office as a Flight Coordinator, where she worked closely with the pilots of Maverick and the Corporate Assistance with the traveling details for the Officers. She landed her dream job and thoroughly enjoyed working with the Maverick crew. In 2018 she started to become very ill to the point where she was put on disability and no longer able to work. Katrina continued to keep in contact with her lifelong friends who she cherished.

It was a hard decision for Katrina to stop treatment and turn her future over to Christ, she had battled this disease for too many years. Her life become hospitalizations, doctor visits, tests, and procedures that consumed her life.

In the first part of March Katrina was able to come home on Hospice to her mother’s home. She was so happy to finally have some sense and gain control back over her life. The Hospice team was phenomenal in helping the family with medication administration and emotional support. A huge thank you to Brooke, Trevor, Robin, Krystal, Mandy and Dr. Peterson-Henry for the excellent care. Katrina’s battle ended peaceful and gracefully

Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter, Veronika White of Sioux Falls, SD; mother, Chris (Terry) Hanten of Sioux Falls, SD; father, Mark (Debra) Moilan of Huron, SD; brother, Michael (Steph) Moilan of Fargo, ND; maternal grandparents, Michael and Judy Kalahar of Huron, SD; niece, Scarlett Moilan of Fargo, ND; nephew, Everett Moilan of Fargo, ND; aunts, Kathy (Dan) Weinstein of Sioux Falls, SD, Sherri (Bob) Blue of Iroquois, SD, Jewel (Reg) Tschetter of Huron, SD, Eva Wipf of Huron, SD; uncle, David Beyer of Milwaukee, WI; Veronika’s father, Brad White of Sioux Falls, SD; step-children, Zach Pfeifer of Sioux Falls, SD and Andrew Pfeifer of Billings, MT; and a host of other relatives and friends.
