Kenneth Wheaton

Flandreau – Kenneth D. Wheaton, 76, a retired Department of Agriculture employee, died Friday, Dec. 6, 1996, at Sioux Valley Hospital.

Mr. Wheaton was born May 18, 1930, in Farmington, N.M. His family moved to Shawnee, Okla., when he was a young boy. He received his education there. He entered the Army in April 1942, and serve in the European Theater during World War II. He was discharged in August 1945.

He married Eunice Autrey on Dec. 20, 1954, in Shawnee, Okla. He worked for the Petty Geo Physical Company for nine years, serving in South America, Canada, and western South Dakota. He worked for the Department of Agriculture in ASCS in Arizona and California for 27 years. His wife preceded him in death in April 1981. He retired in January of 1985 and moved to Flandreau.

He married Ann Anderson on Jan 28, 1985, in St. Charles, MO. They made their home in Flandreau.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion, VFW and Citizen Band Potawatomi Tribe.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four step-sons: David Autrey of Myrtle Beach, Ore.; Jon Kamben of Williston, N.D.; Bruce Kamben of Hartland, Wisc.; Dale Harden of Pineville, Mo.; two step-daughters; Helen Benes of Tehachapi, Calif.; and Maridee Toates of Flandreau; and one sister, Verona Looper of Shawnee, Okla.; 15 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-granddaughter.

Services begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau.

Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau.
