Maria Wipf
June 07, 1956 - December 31, 2007

Maria Wipf was born June 7, 1956 at New Elm Springs Colony to Sam and Mary Wipf, the 4th of 10 children. Maria was born and raised at New Elm Springs Colony. She moved to Sioux Falls at the age of 17 and went on to school in Tongue Point, Oregon. She lived in Los Angeles for several years before returning to the Midwest. Her last 22 years were spent in the Minneapolis and St Paul area. She remained a devout believer in the power of prayer even among the most chaotic of times. Her children remember her as a voice of encouragement, and one who always saw the good in others. They will always cherish the memory of their mother and hope that in eternity she will be rewarded for her kindness and unconditional love. Her last few years have been clouded by the struggle of living with cancer that took her youth, her vitality, and ultimately her life, but never her spirit. She died peacefully at home in the care of her family. For the past months her daughter Clarissa has been the primary caregiver and managed to keep Maria at home and has been the source of care and comfort in Maria’s last days. The family gratefully acknowledges Great Lakes Hospice and the Hospice team for their kindness and encouragement during the past months. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Adrienne(Rasheem) Jones of St. Paul Mn, Aaron ( Julianne) Wipf of Sioux Falls, SD, Angela (Bailen) Wipf of Minneapolis, MN, BJ (Tenicia) Wipf of Appple Valley, MN, James Wipf of Redfield, SD, Clarissa Wipf, Ruby Harvey , Atara and Akeema Wipf all of St Paul Mn; Brothers Samuel( Emma), Joseph (Asnath), and Jacob (Betty) Wipf of Old Elm Springs Colony, Paul (Ann) and Steve Wipf of Sioux Falls, SD, her sisters Lisa (Jack) Flinn of Sioux Falls, SD, Becky (John Kahalekai) of Garibyan, Kauai, Hawaii, Meg ( John) Marker of Clinton, WA, and Kathy (Neal) Blackburn of Yukon, OK; her mother Mary Wipf of Sioux Falls, SD; and 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Wipf. Funeral services will be on Friday at 1:00 PM at Oakwood Park Christian Church. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
