James married Sarah Jane Cassidy on 02Oct1884 in Osceola, Franklin, Iowa.
James and Sarah had 8 children: Lillian Belle Loehr McDowell, Frank Bailey, James Byron, Cora Beryl Loehr Geiger, Mayme-Mary B., John Harman, Baby Loehr, Nell Kathryn Michaelson.

Rite at Flandreau for James H. Loehr
Flandreau, S.D. June 24 – Funeral services were held her Friday afternoon for Hames AH. Loehr, 86, who died at his farm home in the northwest part of Moody County. He was born in Iowa and came her about 45 years ago. He had been interested in stock raising and some years ago exhibited blooded stock. He had given considerable time to raising fruit trees in Moody County. A son, Frank, lives at Madison, and a daughter, Miss Mayme Loehr, is a teacher in the rural schools of Moody County. Rev. H.P. Eberhart conducted the funeral services.
