Herman Schrock was born on November 6, 1879, at Ostereiche, Germany, to Michael and Heneretta Schrock. At the age of 13 he immigrated to the United States with his parents and they settled in the Manning, Iowa vicinity where Herman grew to manhood. He was first united in marriage to Marie Pauline Parsch in Audubon County, IA on February 12, 1903 and to this union, eleven children were born. They lived in the Manning, Iowa vicinity until 1906 when he came to the southern part of Moody County where he farmed till the winter of 1916 when the family moved to Appleton, MN. He farmed near Appleton until his retirement in 1938 and moved to Flandreau where he has since lived. His second marriage to Sophie Petersen took place at Appleton, MN on June 18, 1941. He was a bowling enthusiast and bowled the highest game ever recorded in Flandreau, in the winter of 1939-1940. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sophie, Flandreau; five daughters, Minnie, Mrs. Alfred Hoermann, Odessa, MN; Alma, Mrs. William J. Rheingans; Alvina, Mrs. Robert Haben and Erna, Mrs. Chester Larson of Appleton, MN; and Anna, Mrs. Rudolph Rheingans, Salinas, CA; five sons: Henry, Hutchinson, MN, Clifford, Appleton, MN; Walter, Audubon, IA; Hugo, Kamrar, IA and Louie, Des Moines; three step-daughters: Mary, Mrs. Adolph Beyer, Flandreau; Amanda, Mrs. Epton Brandsma, Sioux Falls and Hilda, Mrs. Herbert Erickson, Detroit; three step-sons: Harry, William and Fritz Petersen, all of Flandreau; 56 grandchildren and 79 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife in June 1940 and one daughter.
