Donald V. DeRouchey, 80, of Yankton, formerly of Vermillion, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Don was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Hoven to Jerome and Patricia (Schulte) DeRouchey. He attended school in Hoven and graduated in 1945 and attended Northern State College and was a teacher for a short time. He later worked as a Depot Agent for the railroad, and lived in many different areas, also working as a baker, ending up in Sleepy Eye, MN.
He later moved to his cabin in Paynesville, MN, and in 2005 he moved to Vermillion to live with his two sisters. In June, 2007 he moved to the Majestic Bluffs in Yankton, he had never married.
Donald is survived by four brothers, Mike and Keith, both of Vermillion, James (Dorothy) of Frisco, TX, and Vincent of Miller; Three sisters, Jane DeRouchey, and Lorraine "Tootie" Werdel both of Vermillion, and Patricia Nation of Mesa, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, David, Carol, Jerry, and infant twins.
Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, with burial following in the Bluffview Cemetery in Vermillion. For online condolences and obituary please visit hansenfuneralhome.com.
