Robert E. ‘Buck' Babcock, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at the Pipestone Medical Center in Pipestone, Minn.

Funeral services are Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau with the Rev. John Jacoway and the Rev. Lawrence Christensen officiating. Burial is in the Union Cemetery in Flandreau. Masonic service at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau.

Robert was born June 30, 1930, at Flandreau, to Everette and Emma (Bennett) Babcock. He graduated from Flandreau High School in 1948 and attended SDSU.

He married JoAnn Anderson on March 9, 1953, at Flandreau. He farmed near Wardand then moved to rural Egan, where he also farmed. Buck moved to Lake Havasu, Ariz., and worked heavy equipment. He returned to Egan in 1977 and farmed and worked for Loiseau Construction until 1992. He has been a resident of the nursing home since 1995.

Buck was a former member of the Egan School Board, was a 50- year member of the Masonic Lodge No.11 AF & AM, was a member of the Flandreau United Methodist Church, and the Teamster's Union.

He is survived by four children, Roberta "Rob" Lewis of Flandreau, James (Rita) of Kenai, Alaska, Janet Babcock of Sioux Falls and Laurie (Kerry) Thomas of Flandreau; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ross (Paula), Menifee, Calif., and Donald (Judy) of Brookings.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Dean, and his brother, William Everette.
