Lt. Col. Harold C. Bergdale was a decorated veteran of World War II. He served in the 90th infantry division of the U.S. Army. He and his comrades landed on Normandy’s Utah Beach on D-Day June 6, 1944 under heavy fire. He fought in General Patton’s third army through several campaigns including the battle of the bulge and also helped liberate the Nazi concentration camp at Flossenberg.
Harold was awarded the Bronze star, the Combat Infantryman’s badge, and several other medals.
Harold and Fern kept in touch with 90th division friends. In 1984 they had the opportunity to travel to Europe for the 40th D-Day reunion tour.
