MORRIS P. HASVOLD

Funeral services were held Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for Morris P. Hasvold, 84, who died Wednesday, Dec 4 at the Flandreau Hospital after a short illness. Pastor Debbie Ohrtman officiated at the services.

Morris P. Hasvold was born on a farm in Clare Township, Moody County to Andrew and Beatha Olson Hasvold on January 15, 1901. He graduated from Flandreau high school in the class of 1919. He received his BA Degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and his Masters degree from the University of South Dakota in 1934. He began preaching at Artesian in 1924 and for the next 14 years was superintendent at Yale, Garden City and St Lawrence, S.D. He was married July 11, 1928 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Irene, S.D. to Ruth M. Levorson. (she preceded him in death May 10, 1979). In 1939 they returned to Flandreau, and in 1941 he started the Hasvold Insurance Agency which he owned and operated until retiring in 1962.

He was a member of the Moody County Library Board for 25 years, on the Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank for 25 years, Charter member of the Flandreau Kiwanis Club and was its President in 1955, member of the Flandreau C&C, Moody County Historical Society and served for many years as secretary-treasurer of the Clare Cemetery Assn. He was very active in our Saviour's Lutheran Church, having been Sunday school superintendent for 16 years.

He is survived by one son, Pastor Paul M. Hasvold, Decorah, IA.; two grandsons, Peter M., Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Thomas R., Decorah, IA.,; one cousin, Hulda May, Heber Springs, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and his parents.

Interment was in Union Cemetery, Flandreau.
