Walter Cropley was born in Wicken Fen, Cambridgeshire, England son of Edward Cropley of Cambridgeshire England and wife Lydia born Feb 2 1816 in Cambridgeshire England who died Nov. 10, 1930 in West Chicago, Du Page Co. Ill. Walter was Naturalized in 1865. He married Rossetta Robbins Aug. 16 1871. They had one son Albert Robbins Cropley born June 23 1872 in Solon Mills Ill. who died Aug. 21 1962 in Sioux City Iowa.
After Rossetta's death in 1884, Walter married Mary Anna Irwin in Dell Rapids S. D. in Jan 1884. The family farmed in Eaden S.D. until 1905 when they moved into town at Dell Rapids . When Mary Anna died in 1928 Walter spent one winter in Chicago and then moved to Sioux City Ia. until his death June 16 1930. He was buried beside Mary Anna in the Dell Rapids cementery after a service was nheld in the home of George and Susie Dean ( Mary Anna's sister).
