Last rites were held on Saturday, September 24th, for James Ridlington, who died in Pierre on Wednesday, September 21. The services were held in the Church of the Living Water, at 3:30 o'clock. The Rector of this church, Rev. P.A. Gough read the simple Episcopal service.

James Ridlington was born in Lincolnshire, England on September 15, 1846, being 92 years at the time of his death. He came to the United States in 1865, living in Iowa and Minnesota before locating in Dell Rapids the summer of 1885.

On December 25, 1879, he was married to Miss Laura Amelia Field at Bellevue, Iowa. To this union five children were born; his wife and four children having precede him in death. Three of the children died within three weeks of other of malignant fever, when the family lived in Minnesota.

He was associated with the W.W. Cargill Company in the grain business for twenty-five years. For the ten years preceding his retirement from active life in 1921, he served as city auditor of Dell Rapids.

A lifelong member of the Church of England he was active in the building and growth of the Episcopal Church in Dell Rapids, serving at various times as a warden and vestryman. He was a member of the Board of Education for ten years and a charter member of the Masonic Lodge of Bellevue, Iowa and for over fifty years affiliated with Lodge No. 40, A.F.&A.M. of Dell Rapids, which organization held their services at the cemetery.

After the death of his wife 17 years ago, Mr. Ridlington spent his winters at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.W. Raish in Pierre, returning to his home here each summer. A year and a half ago he suffered a heart attack in Pierre. Although confined to his room he suffered no pain and passed away quietly.

Surviving are the daughter and two grandsons, Donald R. Raish of Chicago and John F. Field of Pierre.

Honorary pallbearers were: J.T. Maule, G.R. Krause, W.C. Nisbet, W.G. Milne, Isaac Williams, L.K. Larson. Active ones were: H.C. Semmens, U.S. Earls, G.A. Thoreson, O.H. Edie, E.P. Shively, J.V. Olsen.

Committal rites were held in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
