Death Summons Dell Rapids Pioneer Photographer

Dell Rapids and vicinity mourns the passing of one of our most highly respected and esteemed citizens, O.H. Eide, who died on Friday March 14th, following many months of illness.

Mr. Eide was one of the oldest business men of Dell Rapids. For more than 50 years he operated a photo studio here, and had a reputation for being one of the outstanding photographers in the state. When his health failed, about two and half years ago, he retired from work and later sold his business.

He was born in Norway August 27, 1868. At the age of 21 he came to this country, locating at Luverne, Minn., where he served as an apprentice photographer for three years, locating in Dell Rapids in 1882. At death he was nearly 79 years of age.

During the past half century Mr. Eide had been identified with the progressive group of pioneer business men. He took an interest in promoting the things that were good for the city and community. He was one of the founders of the Dell Rapids beach, was a member of the park board for many years and has always been an active member of the Dell Rapids Commercial Club.

Funeral services were conducted at the Hermanson Funeral Chapel on Monday afternoon by Rev. Ole M. Odland, pastor of the local Lutheran Church. Burial took place in the Dell Rapids Cemetery, where the Masonic burial service was used. The deceased had been a steadfast and loyal member of the order for fifty years.

He is survived by one sister, four nieces and two nephews, who reside in Norway.
