John James Godsk
(November 27, 1921 - October 29, 2009)

John James Godsk, 87, of Dell Rapids passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 in the Chapel of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday with the family present from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home.

John James Godsk was born on November 27, 1921 at Hurley, SD, the son of John L. and Dana (Larsen) Godsk. He grew up in Hurley and moved with his family to Centerville when he was in the first grade. He attended Hammond Country School through the 6th grade and then the Ellis-White Country School through the 8th grade. He attended Centerville High School and graduated in 1939. After high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the European Theater with the 95th Gun Battalion. In November of 1945, he was discharged and returned to Dell Rapids, SD. He farmed in partnership with his father and brother. James retired from farming in 1997. He moved into Dell Rapids in December of 1997 and to Orchard Hills in 2007.

James was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, the Trent American Legion Post and the Dell Rapids Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed farming and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Jesse Donald Godsk and his wife, Margaret of Dell Rapids and his nieces and nephews.
