Mildren "Millie" May 3, 1917 - Feb 22, 2011
Mildred E. "Millie" Moen, age 93, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with burial at Romsdal Lutheran Cemetery south of Canton. Family will greet visitors an hour prior to the service.Millie was born May 3, 1917 on a farm near Flandreau, SD, to August and Josephine (Johnson) Karsten. She attended school in Beaver Creek, MN, graduating in 1935. Millie then attended Stewart's School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls. She operated beauty shops in Sioux Falls for a number of years and in Canton for 11 years.Millie was united in marriage to Iner Moen on December 30, 1951 in Canton. They made their home on a farm north of Canton. The couple adopted their year old son, Mark, in 1966. Millie's husband died in 1992. She moved to Canton in 1994 and had been a resident at Canton Good Samaritan Society for 7 years. She had been a resident at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls since October of 2010. Millie enjoyed her life on the farm and loved to read and dance.She is survived by her son, Mark and special friend, Pam Christensen, of Sioux Falls; grandson, Derek Spielmann; great-grandson, Jace; sister, Luella (Ken) Pedersen, Sioux Falls; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Karsten, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Dana Bliek, 2 brothers- Robert and Ernest, and a sister, Margaret Staeffler.
