Andrew S HAUGEN

Romsdal Cemetery
Lincoln County,
South Dakota

1844 - 1909

Andrew Haugen (1844-1908) was born in Norway. He married Ida Eneboe (1849-1898) in 1868 and then left for America. They came to Freeborn County, Minn., and lived there for some time. There the two oldest children: Mary (1870-1956) and Edward (1872-1906) were born. About 1873 they came to Dakota and settled in Highland Township. Andrew worked a piece of land, built a log cabin, and after some years of work, the land was approved as a homestead. As they acquired a little money, they built a small log house. Son Edward was killed instantly by a run away team of horses while plowing. Each year a small portion was added to the house to ac¬commodate the growing family. Ida died young and left Andrew with five children, the youngest being only one year old. Andrew died 11 years later. The six children born to Andrew and Ida were, Mary, Ed¬ward, Sivert, Ole, Thea (Mrs. Carl Solem), and Edwin. (Source: The History of Lincoln County, SD 1985, page 432)
