Last rites were conducted here Saturday morning at the Catholic church, for John G. Scholten, who lost his life by drowing in Lake Shetek, near Slayton, Minn. Mr. Scholten was born in Holland on Oct. 2, 1880, and attained the age of 62 years, 5 months and 29 days. At the age of 14 he began his career as a painter, and did considerable traveling in Europe. In 1906 he came to the United States and located in Iowa, where he engaged in various employment. Later he went to Sioux City and in 1916 came to Lincoln county. For five years he farmed near Harrisburg and then for three years farmed near Tea, Wall Lake and southwest of town. In 1924 he moved to Lennox and resumed his old trade, starting a paint shop under the name of Scholten & Schelten. The partnership lasted two years, with Mr. Scholten continuing in the business here until the spring of 1942. As far as is known deceased has no living relatives in this country.
