Having struggled with cancer the past two years, Donald died at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls on Sunday evening, Nov. 25, 2007. He attained the age of 74 years, six months and five days. Donald Leonard Hamerly was born in Sioux Falls, SD on May 20, 1933. He was the son of Leonard and Margaret Rebecca Hamerly. He attended Lennox Public School and graduated from Lennox High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. On June 27, 1956 he was united in marriage to Donna Fitzgerald at Marion. Following their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls and moved to Lennox in 1959 where they had since lived. Don was employed as a sales representative with ECOLAB until his retirement. Don was a member of Saint Magdalen's Catholic Church. While his health permitted, Don was an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Becky, on Feb. 27, 1977 and his father, Leonard, on Jan. 6, 1984. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Donna; three sons: Mike Hamerly of Lennox, Greg Hamerly and his wife, Jeanne, of Minneapolis, MN and Jeff Hamerly and his wife, Karen, of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Mary Kay Jacobson of Luverne, MN and Judy (Jerry) Buckmaster of Carson, IA; plus other relatives and many friends.
