Marvin Edward Maule
The community was inexpressibly shocked at the tragic death of Marvin Maule in the fire at the gas works last Saturday.
He was born in Dell Rapids June 30th, 1883, and here he had lived all his life. Everyone knew him, and everyone liked him; he was a part of the community life, and his sudden death cast a pall over all.
The funeral was held Monday morning from his home, conducted by Rev. Janes, the service being in the open, the many friends assembling on the lawn and Rev. Janes, speaking from the veranda. He spoke especially of the duty of appreciation we all owe to those who labor in the various avocations and industries that we may enjoy more of the comforts of living. Those who toil at the furnaces, at the engines, at the forges, upon buildings and other places, were constantly in more or less danger. They are rendering to the world their contribution of service of Divine direction. When one fails in the line of duty, as did Marvin Maule, it should cause us all to realize what we owe to him and to others, in appreciation of their service.
While it will never be known exactly how he met his death, it is certain that he was at his post and doing his utmost to save the destruction of property or loss of life. To this he sacrificed his life. More no one could do.
Marvin Maule was married to Miss Inez Norton August 17th, 1908, who with a little son four years old is left to mourn his loss, and he also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Maule, one brother, Claude, and three sisters, Mabel, Jennie and Evelyn and his grandmother, Mrs. N. Bardell.
His brother Claude, of Winner reached here Monday in time for the funeral, and Mrs. Norton, mother of the sorrowing wife, came from Lemmon, reaching here Sunday.
The funeral was largely attended and the casket was loaded with flowers. The sympathy of all goes out to the sorrowing relatives.
