Prominent Dell Rapids Business Man Passes

W.H. Beto Was In Business Here Nearly Fifty Year; Funeral Services This Afternoon

W.H. Beto, long time business man of Dell Rapids passed away at his home here Tuesday forenoon, following an illness of several months. Mr. and Mrs. Beto went to Jackson, Mississippi last winter, thinking the change to a warmer climate would be beneficial to his health; however, his condition became steadily worse. They returned home shortly after Easter, and since that time he has failed rapidly. Their daughter, Miss Arlene Beto, a nurse whom they were visiting in Mississippi returned with them and has been caring for her father.

Mr. Beto, 77, was born Nov. 1, 1875, at Iota, Minn. He was untied in marriage to Louise Burg of Calumet, Wis., in 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Beto located in Jasper Minn., moving to Dell Rapids 48 years ago. Since that time he has been in business here, operating a meat market, and in later years a locker plant.

Few men have accumulated more friends during a lifetime than has Mr. Beto. He was know for his honesty and integrity in business and his ever willingness to assist with civic enterprises that have been beneficial to the town and community. He served as a member of the board of education for twenty years, and also was city alderman from his ward for several terms. He was a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star orders and served on the Vestry of the Episcopal Church over a long period of time.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and five daughters. Arthur of Dell Rapids, Orton, San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Arthur Anderson, Sioux Falls, Mrs. Y.O. Morris, Big Rapids, MIch., Mrs. Walter Crisp, Dell Rapids, Arlene, Jackson, Miss., Mrs. A.W. McKinley, Matchez, Miss. There are seventeen grandchildren. One brother resides in Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday), at 1:30 at the home, 2:00 at the Episcopal Church. Masonic rites will be held at the graveside. Burial will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Hermanson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
