CANTON - Lori M. Opland, 46, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Lori, daughter of Ernie and Helen Metz, was born in Yankton, SD, on October 25, 1956. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1974. She married Rick Opland on November 12, 1977, and lived on a farm near Canton. She worked 27 years for the U.S. Federal Probation Office in Sioux Falls. Lori was active in the Canton community, Prairie Wings Cancer Support Group, Relay for Life, Canton After-Prom Party Committee, all school activities, and was a very active member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Canton. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Rick Opland, Canton; son, Casey, Canton; daughter, Katie, (fiance, Kyle King), Canton; nephew/son, Jesse Lips, Denver, CO; her parents, Ernie and Helen Metz, Yankton; brother, Craig (L.K.), Atlanta, GA; sister, Linda Metz, Falls Church, VA; brother, Jeff (Royalee), Kennebec, SD; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
