Falls In Thresher: Fatally Injured
Carl Quissel, young farmer living about ten miles east of Dell Rapids passed away Tuesday morning, September 10th, suffering from the effects of wounds he received on Wednesday of last week when he fell into the feeder of a threshing machine.
Mr. Quissel was assisting with the threshing and was looking after the separator. When he attempted to oil some past of the machine near the feeder, he lost his balance and fell into the knives. But for the large oil can which was of sufficient sixe to stop the machinery, he would have met death almost instantly. As it was he was badly slashed across the abdomen. He was rushed to the local hospital in a very serious condition. However he was treated and clung to life for almost a week, passing away early Tuesday from the effect of peritonitis.
The deceased was forty-five years old and is survived by his wife and two children. He was an energetic and successful farmer, widely known throughout this territory for his ambition and integrity. His untimely death will be keenly felt, not alone by his family, but by all who knew him.
