Matt Metli
February 14, 1971 - January 7, 2020
Matthew Douthit Metli, 48, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on January 7, 2020 after complications from cardiac surgery.
The Valentine’s Day baby was born on February 14, 1971 to Steve and Vickie Metli. He grew up in Sioux Falls attending O’Gorman High School. Matt loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and football. He attended the University of South Dakota and Spearfish College. He joined the Army, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. He was 82nd Special Forces Airborne, Green Beret.
When honorably discharged, he applied himself as a team member in siding, roofing, painting and home construction in Sioux Falls, Alaska and Hawaii. Later, Matt worked in sales, and customer service banking.
Matt was blessed with a spunky, darling daughter, Cassidy, on September 1, 1991. He cherished Cassidy his entire life.
He continued fishing for Willie, the monster walleye, who got away. He loved the outdoors. He relished planting, weeding and watching constellations, his wildflowers blossoming getting such a kick out of nature’s birds, bugs, bees and attending to them. Matt enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and doing his best at loving life. He was known for his wit, fun and kindness. He lived simply and embraced his love for his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Cassidy Metli Dahlhausen; his mother, Vickie Douthit; sisters, Mindy La Framboise (Tony) and Mary Meester (Eric); his impish and delightful grandchildren, Audric, Zaiden and Paige. Matt’s aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins that were his brothers and sisters, and friends were so wonderful to him.
Matthew is preceded in death by his father, Steve, and his cousin brother Tony.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, January 11, 2020 with private family burial at St. Michael Cemetery following the service with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, in Matt's honor, please go do something kind for another person, pay it forward to spread more compassion and kindness in our world. Matt would have loved to see a world where love and compassion prevails.
