March 4, 1969 - February 19, 2023

Lisa Vassar, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by those who loved her. She was 53.

Lisa Ann Vassar was born March 4, 1969, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Donald Whipple and Ellen Vassar. She attended Beadle School and then stayed home for a period of time. She then attended South Eastern Behavioral School, graduating in Life Skills.

She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Cathedral where she was baptized and confirmed, and a member of the Santee Sioux Tribe.

With her soul wrapped in joy, Lisa began each day smiling and singing happy birthday. She loved to sing and dance to up-beat music. On Sundays when the church organ would start, Lisa would always begin to dance. When the weather was nice, she liked going to the park to swing and bounce the balls. She also liked to eat and loved going to restaurants with her family. She just loved being around everyone. She liked bright clothing, red and white were her favorite. Lisa always looked forward to opening her presents on her birthday and at Christmas time.

Her happy and loving spirit will be forever missed and cherished.

Grateful for having shared her life are her mother, Ellen Medicine Horn, Sioux Falls, SD; and sisters, Lillian Vassar, Sioux Falls, SD, Laura (Tom) Vassar-Gillis, Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Whipple; grandparents, Roy and Eliza Vassar; and her sister, Marie Vassar.

The family will be present to greet friends at 4:00pm Friday at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls, with a prayer service starting at 6:00pm. The funeral will begin at 11:00 the following day on Saturday, February 25, at the church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
