Bob was born on a farm S.E. of Flandreau on December 25, 1918 to Robert (Les) and Ruth Babcock Bennett. As a young boy he moved to a farm 3 miles south of Flandreau where he attended Egan Public School graduating in 1936. He then worked at several jobs until he moved to California where he worked as a trucker. He entered the Army in 1942 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WW2 until his discharge in 1945. He returned to California to work and in the 1950's he returned to Flandreau where he farmed. He was married February 18, 1960 at Sioux Falls to Florence Krull Guenthner. They moved to a farm 5 miles east of Flandreau in 1964 where he farmed until 1979 when he retired. In November of 1984 they moved into Flandreau where he has continued to make his home. He was a member of the Fletcher County School Board, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Florence, Flandreau; 1 daughter: Mary, Mrs. Dean Duncan, Huron; 1 son: Daryl Bennett, Flandreau; 3 grandchildren: Jared, Jesse and Justin; 3 brothers: Harley and Bert, Flandreau, William, Elkton; 2 sisters: Evelyn, Mrs. Lloyd Chamberlin, Rogers, AR, Donna Malone, Brandon. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Vi Bennett.
