A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Daniel Funeral Home in Clearwater for Frank A. Duncan age 81, of St. Cloud formerly of Annandale. Frank passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Daniel Funeral Home in Clearwater.
Frank was born on July 4, 1927 in Hudson, South Dakota to Robert and Della (Johnson) Duncan. He briefly lived in both Chicago and Southern California before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in the European Theater. He married Ruth Vaa on December 13, 1988 in Arizona. They have returned to Arizona during the winters for the last 19 years and spent the summers in Annandale, MN, where Ruth works at Schroeder Park as the park manager. He was a proud member of the Clearwater American Legion Post #323, Maple Lake VFW Post #7664, and the Laborers International Union of North America Local #563. He enjoyed the warm Arizona winters and the yearly trip to Mexico. Frank loved spending time with his family, especially his 24 great-grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of twenty years, Ruth; children, Frank Jr. (Kay), of Haslett, MI, James "Jim" (Chris) of Mason, MI; step children, Judy (Jerry) VanDenEinde of St. Joseph, Sandra (Keith) Sather of Maple Lake, MN and Lake Forest, CA, Harry Vaa of Lester Prairie, MN; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Delbert of Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia Anderson of Hawarden, IA, Bette Moulton of Canton, SD, James of Ft. Pierre, SD, and Donald of Norco, CA; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Margaret Ann in 1955; step-daughter, Carrie Dahl; brothers, Robert "Bud" and William "Bill"; step-sisters, Virginia Hurlbert, Eleanor Lapsley, Veronica Zachary, and Fern Rockvam. His family would like to thank the staff of the St. Cloud Hospital, especially those on the 4th floor and in ICU for the tremendous care and concern provided.
