Death Calls Another World War Veteran

Elmer Leum Dies Saturday Evening; Funeral Was Held on Wednesday Afternoon

The death of Elmer Leum occurred August 7th at Dell Rapids Hospital.

On August 9th he underwent an operation for cancer of the liver and his condition was found to be beyond help.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Leum of Dell Rapids and was born in Dell Rapids, April 15, 1896. He was baptized July 8, 1896 in the Lutheran church here, by Rev. Mortvedt and confirmed by Rev. Bruce in 1910.

September 12th, 1925 he was married to Miss Avis L. Harvey of Valley Springs, S. Dak.

He was a World War Veteran, having served eight months at Camp Funston.

Surviving relatives are: his wife, parents, one sister, Anna, and a brother, Oscar, who reside at home in Dell Rapids and a brother Gilbert, of Sioux Falls.

For the past two years he has made his home in Sioux Falls.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran Church. Rev. Johnson formerly pastor of the Lutheran church here but now of Sinai, officiated.

He was given a military funeral by the American Legion of this place. Burial took place in the Dell Rapids cemetery.
