Henry Becker Laid to Final Rest

Many Relatives and Friends Attend Services to Pay Tribute to His Memory

Henry Becker, known to everyone in this community as a man of sterling disposition and character. passed away at his home in this city on Tuesday of last week.

The passing of Mr. Becker leaves vacant the place of a man who was loved by everyone, a man who seemingly had no worries, and who was always ready to meet the world with a smile.

Henry Becker was born in Albany, Renseler County, N.Y., December 17, 1856, and died in Egan, S.D., April 17, 1923, aged 66 years, 4 months and 3 days.

When Henry was 6 years of age the family moved to Waterloo, Iowa, and here he grew to manhood. December 11th, 1879, he was married to Miss Catharine Stein, also of Waterloo.

Nine children were born to this union, two of whom have preceded him to the Great Beyond, William dying in infancy and John passed away May 12, 1908. Seven survive him; they are , Mrs. Leonard Kern of Egan, Mrs. Charles Relf of Colman, George of Colman, Miss Gertrude of Jubbulpore, India, Ed of Flandreau, Mrs. S.R. Peet of Alpena and Leonard of this city. Besides the children, he leaves his faithful wife, one brother and fourteen grandchildren to mourn for him whom they loved.

Mr. Becker was a member of the Masonic Order and for seventeen years had been a consistent member of the Egan lodge. He was also a member of the Methodist church of this city. He was a good neighbor, a true friend, a man-hearted brother, a kind husband and a loving father. He will be missed in the home, on the street, in the lodge, and among his business associates.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon, from the house at 1:30 and at the church at 2:00 and the remains were tenderly bedded at the Egan cemetery. The Masons attended the funeral in a body.

Rev. George Haskell, a close friend of Mr. Becker, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Arnold of this city. Beautiful floral tributes were paid in love and respect of the deceased, and notwithstanding the heavy downpour of rain, the church was crowded to its capacity. Many were the autos that accompanied the remains to their last resting place in the Egan cemetery. The Express extends its sincerest sympathy to the mourning wife, sons, daughters and relatives. May he rest in peace.

Present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Becker of Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. C Faust of Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. George Hansman, of Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Bailey and son, Charles, of Garry, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler Peet, of Alpena; Mr. and Mrs. Rob Vottler, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller, of Benson, Iowa; and Jacob Heizer, of Colman
