Ronald E. Cowles
The church in Big Tree has been a loving and appreciative congregation which has ministered to the family during this time of need.
The family of Dr. Ronald Cowles thanks all of you for your ministry to us.
Ronald Eugene Cowles, 64, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born Jan. 30, 1941, to the Rev. Fred Cowles and Ilela Sammons-Cowles. Dr. Cowles married Rowena Miller.
He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Ottawa in Kansas with a major in psychology. During college, Ron served Dry Ridge/Devon Baptist Churches in rural Kansas and First Baptist Church in Easton, Kansas. Ron continued his education at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kan., earning a master of divinity. He was ordained into ministry at First Baptist Church in Fairbury, Neb. Ron worked in Sioux Falls, S.D., as associate minister of that state and later became executive minister of the American Baptist Churches of the Dakotas, where he served for a total of 15 years. During his time in the Dakotas, he completed his doctorate of ministry. Ron ministered to the RV church in Big Tree in Arcadia, for the past seven years.
He is survived by three children, Richard Eric, David Allen and Rebecca Ruth; three grandchildren, Cameron, Chase and Matthew; and one step-grandson, Ben. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christine.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2005, followed by services at Big Tree RV Park.
Arrangements are by Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia.
