Flandreau - Laurie E. lohnson, 74, died Wed., July 10th at Heart Hospital of SD in Sioux Falls.
Laurie was born June 6, 1928, at Flandreau, SD, to Edwin and Ida (Grindberg) lohnson. He graduated from Egan High School in 1946 and attended and graduated from Nettleton Business College of Sioux Falls. Laurie married Delores Bowen on September 25, 1947, in Flandreau. He worked with his brother in a trucking business until they moved to the family farm and farmed until 1952. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1952 and he worked as an accountant until 1956 when they moved to Flandreau and he went into the auto parts business. Laurie and his son, David, bought the Ekern Hardware Store in 1976 and opened up Ace Hardware. The store burned down in 1977 and was not rebuilt.
Laurie was elected Moody County Auditor in 1978 and retired in 1995. He was appointed County Commissioner in 1996 and served the remaining term. Laurie was a member of Ss. Simon and ude Catholic Church, SD Association of Commissioners, a former member of Kiwanis Club, belonged to the Democratic Party, and coached Legion Baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; 6 children, Barbara Ullom, Piano, TX; David (Kris), Flandreau; Vicki Johnson, Sioux Falls; Gayle (Kevin) Merritt, Fresno, CA; Joan (Jason) Rovig, Phoenix, AZ; Kristen Johnson, Sioux Falls; 6 grandchildren, Brett, Brian (Pedro), Tracy, Scott, leremy, Corey; 7 greatgrandchildren, Megan, Kendra, Haley, Emily. Kaitlyn, Ryan, and Malia.
He was preceded in death by a son, Troy; his parents, 4 brothers, Norman, Alan, Irvin, and Merlin; and I sister, Emily. Funeral Mass will be Sat., July 13th, 10:30 AM at Ss. Simon and ude Catholic Church with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2 PM Friday with a 7 PM Scripture Service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
