Funeral services were conducted in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Monday afternoon for Mrs. M.K. Knudson, 85, who passed away in the Flandreau Hospital, Wednesday, Jan. 2. The Rev. Ole Odland, Dell Rapids, officiated at the services with arrangements completed by the Orvedahl Funeral Home.
Alvilda Rosalia Mattern was born January 8, 1867, near Oslo, Norway. At the age of 10 years she came to America with her parents, arriving in Yankton.
In 1878 she came with her fold to Moody County, where she has lived since with the exception of a short time in Kingsbury County.
She was united in marriage to M.K. Knudson on March 8, 1884. To this union was born 11 children. Mr. Knudson and three children preceded her in death. Mr. Knudson passed away on Sept. 15, 1947.
Mrs. Knudson was a member of the first confirmation class of the Oslo Church. She was confirmed Oct. 13, 1881 by the late Rev. J.A. Blilie.
Survivors include three daughters, Clara Kneebone, Sioux Falls; Laura Vogel, Fort Dodge, Ia. and Dagmar Michael, Alhambra, California; and five sons, Melvin, Napa, California; Alfred, Everett, Wash; Ted, Chicago; John, Harrisburg and Herman of Flandreau. She also leaves a brother, Henry Mattern, Marysville, Wash., and three sisters, Mrs. George Clark, Panoka, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. William Moeller, Bryant and Martha Wagner, Marysville, Wash. Thirteen grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren also survive.
Burial was made in the Union Cemetery in the family plot.
